John Haniver’s debut builds on damaged synth drones merging with heavily manipulated field recordings. These sounds, warm, organic and cold at the same time create desperate soundscapes which form a dense ephemeral space. Wide and enraptured but always connected to a bleak reality.

how to live like a ghost is a meditation on being without a place to call home, on depression, alienation and isolation. John Haniver creates a tonal narration that leads us into a calm and unsettling void. Despite its abstract facets it always feels natural and human. With these tape sounds evoking slow resonating melancholy and anxiety it is a study on perception of emotional distress. Somber colors draw foggy scenes transforming into claustrophobic rooms.

how to live like a ghost feels like coming home and not being at home anymore, like meeting an estranged friend, like disappearing and being captured by gravity again.
